Let’s talk about Cannabis. Bud. Marijuana. Mary Jane. Reefer. Let’s talk about that green little plant that has been a buzz topic throughout our beautiful country lately...
For those of you who know us, we live in British Columbia, Canada. BC is stereotypically known for having great weather, beautiful scenery, dirty hippies and good ol’ BC Bud (of which 40% of Canada’s cannabis is grown). So having conversations that relate or are about cannabis are relatively mainstream. Have you ever been to Vancouver? Have you seen those ‘Cannabis Dispensaries’? For the most part, us BC folk have a relatively open minded view to Cannabis.
This, however, is not necessarily the case for the rest of Canada.
You see, for the past several years, we’ve offered handmade pressed Cannabis Leaf pictures for sale. We like to think that our pictures are simple and tasteful, letting the Cannabis leaf shine on it’s own.
Sometimes, we make the cannabis leaf a little more ‘Canadian’.
And most recently, we’ve been playing with our Jewellery line and incorporating the little leaf into our pendants.
We’ve taken these products with us on tour across Canada to attend various Art & Craft Shows. Typically, they’re displayed closer to the bottom of our booth, to not be showcased in the limelight.
We’ve always received mixed reviews about our Cannabis Collection. Some people come into our booth, intrigued by our work… they spot the Cannabis Leaf picture, and simply walk out of our booth… offended by what they just laid their eyes on. Others offer us a snarky remark about having the leaf displayed for sale. Typically, the further east we go, the more people get offended about that little green plant.
And then there’s the other end of the spectrum - we have people who are absolutely ecstatic about the presence of the Cannabis Leaf in our booth. They come into our booth, spot the Cannabis Leaf and start telling us their experiences with the little green plant. How it’s helped with their chronic pain, Arthritis, Crohn's Disease, Nausea, Multiple Sclerosis, Phantom Limb pain… you name it! We have heard so many success stories across Canada from people who have battled their diseases with medical marijuana over the recent years. It is SO inspirational, to say the least!
FUN FACT: Grandmas used to be our most common customer when purchasing Cannabis pictures from us. Their reason for buying? It varied from getting the picture for their grandkids, to reminiscing about the ‘good old days’.
As many of you know, Cannabis was legalized on October 17th, 2018 in Canada with the Cannabis Act.
During the week leading up to the legalization, we drove across 4 provinces to attend 2 Art & Craft shows in Manitoba. On our way, we listened to the local radio as we crossed half of our country. The Cannabis Act was the ‘hot topic’. What we heard was a vast array of different opinions, views and rules coming from the different provinces, media and governments. The further east we traveled, the more radio stations portrayed a negative light on the legalization of marijuana.
When attending the Art & Craft shows in Manitoba just recently, we found that more and more people are becoming ‘pro-cannabis’ compared to the years before.
There’s a lot of discussion around the topic lately and all we have to say is… that green little plant is helping a whole lot of people and saving lives! #procannabis
